SNAP-ON WELCOMES YOUNGEST EVER ATTENDEE TO ITS HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL TECHED SEMINARS

12 October 2009: Snap-on, brand leaders in diagnostic tools, software and information for the automotive industry, has recently welcomed the youngest-ever attendee to one of its highly successful TechEd seminars.

14-year old Liam Hewson had saved his pocket money so that he was able to buy a ticket to attend the ‘Beyond the Code’ TechEd seminar recently held in Scarborough. Liam, pictured with Snap-on’s Diagnostic Product Specialist (DPS) for the North East Gary Lovett (left) and Tim Adkin, local Snap-on Tools’ Franchisee (right), was presented with a Snap-on T-shirt and Snap-on mug to celebrate the occasion.

Adrian Bird, who is the owner of Alga Garage in South Cliff, Scarborough, accompanied Liam to the seminar. Liam works for Adrian during school holidays and also on a one day a week special release apprenticeship from Yorkshire Coast College. Adrian himself has attended all of the four previous Snap-on TechEd seminars and says: “They are really great. I really do learn something new and valuable at every one and Gary Lovett makes them so much more interesting because, like me, he will leave no vehicle problem unsolved. He has to get to the bottom of any fault.

“Liam’s father was a mechanic and Liam has clearly inherited his flair for handling the technology of today’s cars. I have had several young mechanics on day release and Liam is as good as any that I have had here up to the age of 18. I only have to teach him something once and he remembers every aspect. He is a very clever lad at school with all his grades at C or above. He is desperate to go to college at 16 and qualify as a motor mechanic. These two years of work experience will definitely shorten his course when he gets there. He is very talented – a star for the future – and he really found the Snap-on ‘Beyond the Code’ TechEd seminar to be extremely valuable in helping him to understand the future of diagnostics.”

The first in the series of TechEd Seminars focused on ‘Diagnosing Intermittent Faults’, while the second covered ‘Advanced Diagnostics Information’. The third covered ‘Diesel’ and the fourth CANbus. Delivered by Snap-on’s specially appointed team of dedicated Diagnostic Product Specialists (DPSs) these have proved extremely attractive to technicians to the extent that there is already strong demand for these latest ‘Beyond the Code’ seminars which Liam attended.

Held at 55 locations around the UK, TechEd Seminars are open to all technicians, not just those using Snap-on branded equipment and are designed to appeal to every level of technician from all workshop types. They are conducted at a nominal charge of £40, which includes a £20 Snap-on Tools voucher, refreshments and copies of the seminar notes and hand-outs. Each presentation lasts for approximately 2 hours.

A final word from Liam himself: “I found the ‘Beyond the Code’ seminar very interesting and I learned a lot, particularly that when you are diagnosing a problem you don’t just jump to the first conclusion. Mr Lovett was a really good instructor and he stressed how important it is not to leave a job unsolved. I would like to say thank you to Adie Bird, Mr Lovett and Tim Adkin for all their help. I hope soon to be able to go on one of the Snap-on full-day seminars.”

More details about Snap-on TechEd seminars can be obtained from your local Snap-on Dealer or by calling Snap-on 0845 6066512.

Editor’s Note: Snap-on offers four levels of hand-held diagnostic equipment: the impressive recently introduced top-of-the-range VERUS, the MODIS diagnostic platform and information system; the recently introduced SOLUS PRO and ETHOS, its entry level product to diagnostics, the forerunner of which has already achieved sales of over 350,000 worldwide.

The key to the success of the Snap-on offering is the ability to keep the product always up to date through the introduction of new software downloads, delivered via ScanBay direct from our Snap-on Franchisee vans. These software upgrade bundles enable Snap-on customers to be kept right at the cutting edge of vehicle diagnostics at all times.
